BE SURE BEFORE YOU BOOK ACCOMMODATION FOR 2021/22
DON'T RUSH
Life is looking very different at the moment and we don’t know when things will return to normal. So it’s important that you’re sure before you make any decisions about accommodation for next year. Take this time to consider where you want to live, with who and what your budget is.
There is no need to rush into making any decisions or worry about not finding accommodation as there is always a surplus of private student accommodation in Liverpool. You can wait until after Christmas to begin your search or even much later in the academic year, as there are accredited properties available all year round.
PROPERTY VIEWINGS - LOOK BEFORE YOU BOOK
Make sure you view properties, either virtually or in person, before signing a contract. Try to get assurances, from the accommodation provider, about the accuracy of doing virtual viewings and what Covid safety measures are in place, should you choose to visit the property.
If you are in a group and want to go to a property viewing, you should limit the number of you who attend, to be able to maintain social distancing measures. Also, if there are any tenants currently in the property, you should be considerate and ensure that you adhere to all safety precautions and guidance.
CONTRACTS - CHECK BEFORE YOU BOOK
If you have been offered a contract for accommodation for next year, it’s important to check/ask for flexible terms and break clauses relating to Covid, given these uncertain times.
We have a free contract checking service, so you can email your contract to us and we will check it for free. We will point out any unfair terms and explain anything that you don't understand. You use this service even if your property is not accredited with us.
BE SURE TO CHOOSE AN ACCREDITED PROPERTY - THE LSH STANDARDS
When it is eventually time to start looking for properties for next year, you should choose landlords and agents that have signed up to an accreditation scheme. This gives you reassurance that the providers and their properties have met quality and safety criteria, as well as a means of redress if things go wrong.
LSH operates the only accreditation scheme in Liverpool for private student accommodation - The LSH Standards. Find out more here.
