Moving out or staying on?

Don’t be rushed into making a decision! Some accommodation providers will ask if you want to stay for the following year within the first few weeks of moving in, but do not feel pressured into this. It’s important for you to give it time with your current housemates to see if you want to live with them for another year.

Don’t forget there is a surplus of good quality student accommodation in Liverpool so there is no need to rush.

Moving out guide

When the time comes to move out of your current accommodation, it doesn't have to be a stressful experience. There's often lots of things to remember to do before you leave, but we've created this handy moving out checklist to help you and guide you through this process.

Moving out before the end of your tenancy

Most student tenancies are be between 9 and 12 months and you are liable to pay the rent for the length of time stated in your tenancy. If you wish to leave your tenancy before the end then you should inform your accommodation provider immediately. You should then make every effort to find someone to replace you in the tenancy by advertising your room or property to other students. You can do this through LSH on our student message board or at one of our find a housemate events if the property is currently LSH accredited. You can view the list of currently accredited landlords and agents, however if your landlord or agent does not appear on the list please contact and we can check this for you.

Packing up your belongings? Have a clear out and recycle

Leave Liverpool Tidy

Leave Liverpool Tidy is a reduce, reuse, recycle student led volunteering project which aims to limit the amount of reusable items going to landfill during the summer months when students move out of their accommodation. It also presents a great opportunity for you to volunteer and get involved in a really productive campaign. For more information on the Leave Liverpool Tidy campaign in your area, email or call 0151 794 6868.

Bulky Bobs

For large, heavy items, Bulky Bobs will collect up to 5 items for free, per property. You can book your collection via Liverpool City Council by calling 0151 233 3001 or visiting the website to request a bulky collection. For a list of items that can be collected, click here.

Visit our dedicated recycling and waste page for further information, including how to find your local recycling centre.

If you don’t choose to recycle your unwanted items then you must take them with you. The last thing you want is to incur charges from a landlord to remove/dispose of any personal effects that you leave behind.

Getting your deposit back

At the end of your tenancy your accommodation provider will inform the scheme that is protecting your tenancy deposit that the tenancy has come to an end and how much deposit they think should be returned to you. You will then have a choice whether to accept this or to dispute it through the deposit scheme.

For more information visit our dedicated getting your deposit back page, including how to access further support from LSH.
